NDP: The County needs a new deal for the future of Highway 49

BELLEVILLE – Amanda Robertson, NDP MPP candidate for Bay of Quinte is calling on the province to take responsibility for the crumbling County Road 49, often crowned as one of the worst roads in the province.

“Safe roads and quality infrastructure is not a luxury,” said Robertson. “County residents and residents across Bay of Quinte deserve a government that does not sit idle while their roads and bridges crumble.”

In an address to the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO), Marit Stiles, Leader of the Ontario NDP, promised to reverse three decades of provincial downloads and deliver a new deal for municipalities when she becomes Premier.

“Prince Edward County residents deserve a new deal,” said Robertson. “The people of this community deserve a voice at Queen’s Park that won’t sit by and watch the government put the burden of maintaining essential roads and infrastructure on their shoulders. They deserve a government that shows up for them every day, not only when there is an election.”
